COBA cocina restaurant in Lexington, KY, Interior and exterior contains more than 60,000 square feet of glass, porcelain and ceramic tile, all installed power grout and IsoLight ™ mortar with TEC ®. The design of the COBA cocina was inspired by cenotes, a miracle of nature, found most commonly in the Yucatan Peninsula, where land has eroded over the centuries to create a mystical underwater world. At the heart of the restaurant is an aquarium, which is the largest private collection of moon jellyfish of the world.
The project team decided that the limestone bedrock and underwater atmosphere the best material to simulate a variety of tiles would be. To achieve this complex look the team turned products due to its wide variety of options and ultimate performance immediately to TEC.
"There was really no other choice, if it to choose which products to use,", said Todd Ott, AIA, associate at CMW, Inc., architect for the project. TEC power joint ultimate performance floor saw mortar was used for all tile applications on COBA cocina. It offers permanent stain resistance, crack resistance, efflorescence resistance and superior color uniformity. Power grout is available in 32 color options, which correspond to the latest design trends – yet another advantage for the COBA cocina design and project team.
"A work of art is the design of the floor and the walls at COBA," said Ott. "The numerous colour options joints makes allows us to choose colors from a variety of grout to our creative design fit."
Including Iridized, Aqua, on floors and walls, a sense of underwater movement experience restaurant patrons, ceramic and glass tiles of different sizes and colors, black, green, gold, and silver.
TEC ® IsoLight ™ is a mortar used to set all of the tile. IsoLight is easy the tile by up to 1/8 "substrate cracking from movement in the plane horizontal substrate protects. It contains recycled materials to allow the wonderful handling and user friendliness. In addition, IsoLight can be applied on many substrates, an extra bonus for the installer of the project of COBA cocina.
