GE 90-70 PLC Product Line Support Acquired by CIMTEC
GE Intelligent Platforms, Inc. (GE IP) announced that the majority of the Series 90-70 PLC family (IC697) was being discontinued. In order to best serve existing Series 90-70 customers and to allow GE Intelligent Platforms to best focus its efforts around new technologies, CIMTEC Automation (http://www.cimtec.com) is pleased to announced that it has reached an agreement with GE IP to take over the order fulfillment, support, and repair services for the Series 90-70 family.
This change will enable customers to continue to purchase Series 90-70 products from their local distributor and to receive full product support, including warranty support and repairs, from CIMTEC as well.
This agreement includes the Series 90-70 products used in the TUV approved GMR SIL rated system configurations. The GMR system continues to be available as a certified system from CIMTEC while components remain available.
"We are extremely excited about this opportunity to be able to serve existing GE IP 90-70 customers throughout the US and the world," says Dan Keenan, President of CIMTEC Automation. "For over 25 years, we have been working closely with GE not only as a premier distributor, but have been providing repairs, remanufactured parts and phone and field support for GE's legacy PLC products. In essence, we have been extending the life of obsolete GE PLC parts."
These days, it is not always possible for a manufacturing facility to migrate to the latest control system just because the vendor decides to discontinue a product line.
"We recognize that end users don't have the resources to migrate control systems every 3 to 5 years. They need a partner that has the expertise to support older systems, has the parts in stock and can respond to emergencies or critical customer issues right then," adds Keenan.
The 90-70 change is effective immediately. CIMTEC will provide the following for all global customers and channel partners:
• Presales support for purchase inquiries for 90-70 products
• Warranty support for the 90-70 installed base
• Out of warranty repair support for the installed base of 90-70 products
• Technical support for the 90-70 installed base
